Rosacea is a common skin condition that causes facial redness. Although rosacea can affect anyone, it most commonly impacts middle-aged women with fair skin. If left untreated, it may worsen with time and can even lead to the formation of red pus-filled bumps.
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is one of the best treatments for rosacea.* With IPL, light is used to penetrate the epidermis so that the capillaries in the dermis can be targeted. That light is selectively absorbed by contents within the blood vessels, causing them to be damaged. As time passes, the body naturally processes these damaged cells and leaves the skin with a more even tone.*
Each IPL treatments only last a few minutes, though the actual time depends on the size of the treated area. Any discomfort you might feel will be minimal. Following an IPL treatment, most patients will immediately be able to resume routine activities. However, one should expect to see some redness and swelling in the first couple of days following treatment.
At Illuminate Plastic Surgery, we treat patients with Cynosure IPL equipment.
