WHAT IS A THIGH LIFT?

Excess skin on the upper legs can be a big problem for people who have undergone extreme weight loss. While the skin is elastic, if you lose weight, and hence volume, very quickly, that skin does not have time to snap back afterward, leaving you with unsightly flaps of loose skin in a number of areas, including the thighs. A thigh lift, also known as a thighplasty, can treat this issue. If you have excess thigh skin and think you may be a good candidate for a thigh lift procedure, contact us to schedule an appointment with Dr. David Boudreault at our convenient Palo Alto location.

HOW DOES A THIGH LIFT WORK?

After a procedure like bariatric surgery or even a highly effective diet and exercise regimen, you may find yourself with loose folds of thigh skin. One of the best ways to resolve this condition, at least in a reasonable amount of time, is to tighten that skin through a thigh lift procedure. In the thigh lift procedure, the doctor can remove excess fat and skin from both the inner and outer thigh and buttock, and then tighten the skin that remains, leaving you with a much more natural-looking thigh.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING A THIGH LIFT PROCEDURE?

Dr. Boudreault performs this procedure at our outpatient AAAASF certified surgery center in convenient Palo Alto. You will be under general anesthesia while Dr. B makes an incision along the line where the leg meets the groin, then removes the excess skin and fat, tightens the remaining skin and sutures the incision. For outer thigh and buttock skin as opposed to inner thigh skin, the doctor makes the incision from the groin around to the back and performs the same process.

HOW LONG IS THE RECOVERY TIME?

Recovery time from a thigh lift can vary according to how many areas of the thigh must be treated and how much excess skin and fat needs to be removed. You should expect to take at least two weeks off from work for recovery time. During that time, you should move your legs as little as possible. By four weeks, you should see most bruising and swelling fade away. Solos nurses can help a lot during this critical time, providing professional overnight postoperative care to meet your needs and ease your recovery.

WHAT DOES A THIGH LIFT TREAT?

Thigh lifts are designed specifically to treat those people who have undergone extreme weight loss very quickly and as a result have experienced a loss of skin elasticity. This manifests in unsightly saggy skin around the area. This can be extremely disheartening for those who have taken steps to achieve this dramatic weight loss in order to improve their appearance. The thigh lift helps these patients complete the process by removing the flabby, saggy skin and tightening the area so they can achieve the look they have been working for.

HOW SOON WILL I SEE RESULTS FROM A THIGH LIFT?

Since the affected areas will be bandaged after surgery, you may not notice the results right away. However, as soon as those bandages are removed you will see that your unwanted flabby, sagging skin is gone, and the skin is dramatically tightened around the thigh area. Once the bruising and swelling has fully subsided, usually within about a month or so, you will be able to fully appreciate the benefits of this highly effective skin tightening procedure.

HOW MUCH DOES A THIGH LIFT COST?

The cost of a thigh lift on average is $8000 to $10,000. The results can be dramatic, and most patients find this cost well worth it. In addition, we have many patients who choose to spread out this cost over time for convenience. If you prefer to cover the cost of your thigh lift in easy monthly payments, just let us know. We can recommend and discuss reliable and easy options like CareCredit and Alphaeon for you. Many of our patients will choose to apply for credit cards with longer terms at 0% interest, so you can enjoy your results soon without the immediate financial burden upfront.
