BBL is a combination of three procedures: Fat harvest, body contouring using liposuction and fat transfer to the buttock.
During the fat harvest, liposuction is performed on areas of the body where there is excess fat. This usually includes the abdomen, flanks, inner and outer thighs and back. The goal of liposuction is to acquire enough fat from the body so that it can be reinjected into the buttock. This is typically around 500-1000 ml for each buttock.
The desired buttock frame is then shaped through a process called lipocontouring.* At this time, fat is artfully removed from the back and flanks to restore the gentle convexity of the buttock.* Lipocontouring may also be performed on the lower buttock to smooth the transition between the lower, outer backside and thighs.*
The third and final step in BBL is fat transfer. At this time, the fat is processed sterilely and injected into areas of the buttock that appear deficient. The amount of fat that is transferred depends on the desired size and shape. Patients with a V-frame typically require more transferred fat than any other shape.
