At Illuminate Plastic Surgery
When patients search for a breast augmentation surgeon in the South Bay, Silicon Valley, or Palo Alto, they're usually looking for two things: a proven implant and a surgeon with the experience to use it well. At Illuminate Plastic Surgery, both are covered. Dr. David Boudreault, MD, FACS — the board-certified founder of Illuminate Plastic Surgery — and Dr. Nishant Ganesh Kumar, MD, a breast and body specialist, fellowship-trained plastic surgeon at the Dallas Plastic Surgery Institute, both offer Natrelle breast implants to patients across Palo Alto, San Jose, and the surrounding Bay Area.
Natrelle, made by Allergan Aesthetics (an AbbVie company), has been FDA-approved in the U.S. since 2006 and remains one of the most extensively studied breast implant systems available — backed by nearly two decades of post-approval outcomes data. For patients who want a breast augmentation built on a long, well-documented safety record, Natrelle is one of the most established choices on the market, and both of Illuminate's surgeons have extensive experience working with it.
Natrelle breast implants are one of the original FDA-approved silicone gel implant systems in the United States, first approved in November 2006, with saline styles approved even earlier. Natrelle implants are approved for both breast augmentation and breast reconstruction, and are backed by one of the largest post-approval outcomes studies in the industry, enrolling more than 40,000 patients to track long-term safety and performance.
Illuminate Plastic Surgery offers Natrelle INSPIRA implants. Natrelle INSPIRA are an advanced cohesive ("gummy") gel implant, engineered to hold their shape while maintaining a soft, natural feel, available in multiple fullness and profile options. Dr. Boudreault and Dr. Ganesh Kumar offer smooth, round Natrelle implants — the style unaffected by the 2019 BIOCELL textured-implant recall — and will help you determine which Natrelle line and profile best fits your goals.
Most patients considering breast augmentation in Palo Alto, San Jose, or elsewhere in Silicon Valley are comparing more than one implant brand. A few reasons patients and surgeons continue to choose Natrelle:
Breast augmentation with Natrelle implants can help to:
Patients choose Natrelle breast augmentation to increase breast volume, restore symmetry, or address volume loss after pregnancy, weight loss, or aging. Because Natrelle offers both round smooth gel and cohesive INSPIRA gel options, Dr. Boudreault and Dr. Ganesh Kumar can tailor the implant style to whether a patient wants a fuller, more traditional round profile or a softer, more form-stable feel.
Natrelle breast augmentation is sometimes combined with a breast lift or fat transfer when a patient's anatomy calls for it — your surgeon will discuss whether a combination procedure makes sense for you during your consultation.
Natrelle silicone gel implants are FDA-approved for breast augmentation in women at least 22 years of age; Natrelle saline implants are approved starting at age 18. As with any breast implant, Natrelle implants are not considered lifetime devices, and the longer they're in place, the greater the chance of eventually needing additional surgery. Patients with silicone implants are advised to have periodic MRI or ultrasound screening as recommended by the FDA. Natrelle implants will not correct significant breast sagging on their own — patients with more advanced ptosis may be better candidates for a breast lift, alone or combined with implants.

Both surgeons perform Natrelle breast augmentation using well-established surgical technique, tailored to each patient's anatomy. Incisions can be placed in the inframammary fold (breast crease), around the areola (periareolar), or in the armpit (transaxillary). The implant pocket may be placed under the breast tissue (subglandular), under the muscle fascia (subfascial), under the chest wall muscle (submuscular), or using a dual-plane technique that combines muscle and glandular coverage — the choice depends on your existing tissue, chest wall anatomy, and desired outcome.
Together, Dr. Boudreault and Dr. Ganesh Kumar give patients in Palo Alto, San Jose, and Silicon Valley access to two experienced, highly-reviewed breast augmentation surgeons under one roof — both with deep experience in Natrelle implants specifically.
Implant selection involves balancing chest width, existing breast tissue, skin elasticity, desired fullness, implant profile and projection, lifestyle, and long-term stability — not simply choosing a cup size. Dr. Boudreault and Dr. Ganesh Kumar both use detailed anatomical measurements during consultation to recommend an implant that complements your natural proportions rather than forcing your body to fit a particular implant.
Natrelle INSPIRA® breast implants offer one of the most customizable breast augmentation systems available today, featuring three unique gummy gel cohesivity levels and five projection profiles. Whether you prefer the natural softness of Natrelle INSPIRA Responsive®, the balanced feel of SoftTouch®, or the enhanced shape retention of Cohesive®, your surgeon can pair the ideal gel type with a Low Plus, Moderate, Moderate Plus, Full, or Extra Full profile to achieve beautifully personalized results. This extensive range of implant options allows for precise customization based on your anatomy, lifestyle, and aesthetic goals.
Natrelle INSPIRA® breast implants are available in three different silicone gel cohesivity levels, allowing patients and surgeons to customize softness, shape retention, and upper-pole fullness.
Natrelle INSPIRA® implants are available in five projection profiles to help create the desired breast shape while accommodating different chest widths and body proportions.
Natrelle breast augmentation is typically performed in about one hour under general anesthesia at Illuminate's QUAD A-accredited surgical facilities in San Jose. It's common for the procedure to be combined with other breast or body surgeries, such as a breast lift, fat transfer, or tummy tuck, to consolidate recovery into a single timeframe.
Most patients take about two days off from work, with additional time before resuming exercise. Bandages or a supportive garment are typically worn over the breasts for about a week; a wireless or supportive bra may be worn afterward with your surgeon's approval. Light cardio can generally begin around two weeks after surgery, progressing to normal-intensity cardio around four weeks. Heavy lifting, planking, push-ups, and other chest exercises should be minimized for up to eight weeks to avoid implant displacement. Most patients manage discomfort with over-the-counter pain relievers rather than narcotics. Your surgical team will see you at scheduled follow-up visits to monitor healing and results.
You'll see the results of your Natrelle breast augmentation right away, though initial swelling and a higher implant position are normal. Over the following six to twelve weeks, implants settle into their final position as swelling resolves.
Natrelle PERKS® gives eligible breast augmentation patients even more value from their investment in Natrelle® gel breast implants. Through the Allē® rewards program, patients may earn 500 Allē points that can be redeemed toward future Allergan Aesthetics treatments and may qualify for a complimentary aesthetic treatment offer with BOTOX® Cosmetic or JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC, subject to program terms and eligibility requirements. Natrelle PERKS® is designed to help patients enjoy additional benefits beyond surgery while enhancing their overall aesthetic journey. Ask our team how to enroll and take advantage of the exclusive rewards available with your Natrelle® breast augmentation.

"Best" depends on your goals, anatomy, and what matters most to you in a surgeon — but Illuminate Plastic Surgery's Dr. David Boudreault, MD, FACS, and Dr. Nishant Ganesh Kumar, MD, are among the most experienced and highly-reviewed breast augmentation surgeons serving Palo Alto, San Jose, and the greater Silicon Valley area, with a combined 4.7-star rating across 375+ reviews, and specific expertise in Natrelle implants. The best surgeon for you is one who takes time to understand your goals and has deep, direct experience with the implant you choose.
Yes. Natrelle round silicone gel implants were FDA-approved in November 2006, and Natrelle implants remain approved today for both breast augmentation (ages 22+ for silicone gel, 18+ for saline) and breast reconstruction.
In 2019, Allergan voluntarily recalled BIOCELL textured breast implants and tissue expanders due to an increased risk of BIA-ALCL, a rare cancer of the immune system. This recall did not affect Natrelle's smooth round or INSPIRA cohesive gel implants, which Illuminate Plastic Surgery uses.
ConfidencePlus is Allergan's implant warranty program, automatically included at no cost with Natrelle gel implants. It provides lifetime implant replacement for rupture and additional coverage for events like Baker Grade III/IV capsular contracture and BIA-ALCL. Coverage terms and dollar amounts are set by Allergan/AbbVie and are subject to change — current details are available at natrelle.com.
Cost depends on the implant style, surgical technique, and your individual anatomy. You'll receive a personalized quote after a consultation with Dr. Boudreault or Dr. Ganesh Kumar. 0% financing up to 12 months is available for eligible patients.
Cosmetic breast augmentation is generally not covered by insurance. Breast reconstruction following mastectomy is a separate, often insurance-covered indication — ask your surgeon's office for guidance specific to your situation.
