Juvederm is a collection of several customizable gel-based hyaluronic dermal fillers, which, during your treatment, are injected just below the skin. Each Juvederm formulation has been purposefully developed to smooth lines and improve the appearance of specific areas of the face, including cheeks, chin, lips, jawline, and under-eyes.
All Juvederm fillers contain a gel form of hyaluronic acid (HA), a plumping ingredient also found naturally in the human body. As we age, we produce less HA, and this unfortunately results in more wrinkles and lost elasticity. The hyaluronic acid used in Juvederm products has been proven to be very safe and biocompatible, presenting nearly zero risk of an allergic reaction or immune response. When administered sub-dermally, hyaluronic acid lifts the skin and restores volume for a more youthful appearance.

When we welcome you to our offices in San Jose or Palo Alto, we’ll examine your skin and take “before” photos to help you pinpoint areas of concern and determine the right Juvederm treatment to help you accomplish your goals. Leading up to your appointment, please avoid alcohol, smoking, over-the-counter, vitamins, and prescribed medications that may increase bleeding.
Juvederm injections take only a few minutes to administer. Our injectors will numb the area first with ice or topical anesthetic to make the procedure as painless as possible. Some Juvederm products also contain a small dose of lidocaine, a numbing agent, for enhanced comfort during the injections.
Your skin may initially be red and have tiny, swollen nodules or pinpoint bleeding at the injection points. These side effects generally resolve shortly after, allowing you to resume most of your daily activities as usual after the treatment. Take care to avoid rubbing the treated areas on the first day and avoid alcohol and strenuous exercise for the first 24 hours. Any bruising is typically mild. While products take effect immediately, it can take up to two weeks to see the final outcome of your treatment. Juvederm isn’t permanent, but the results tend to be long-lasting. Most patients enjoy a smoother, supple appearance for at least a year, depending on the type of Juvederm and how the body metabolizes the product.

We use a topical anesthetic or ice to reduce any chance of pain. These injections tend to be a relatively comfortable treatment. However, some facial areas may be more sensitive than others.
The treatment has few risks when administered by a qualified injector. In rare cases, complications may include granuloma, bruising, bleeding, itching, asymmetry, filler migration, rash, and vascular occlusion.
Juvederm treatment results can last a long time, but they are not permanent. We recommend a return visit for maintenance once the effects start to wear off. While everyone is unique, the general guidance is anywhere from six months to two years later.
