The Discovery Pico system uses Quanta Pico technology to generate a pure photoacoustic effect. When applied to the skin, the generated energy shatters inks and pigmentation without harming surrounding tissue. The result is more vibrant and youthful skin. This careful precision minimizes any discomfort you may feel during treatment. The innovation is the use of two different laser properties.
A technique called light induced optical breakdown (LIOB) stimulates collagen production. The second is called picosecond cold ablation, which removes damaged skin. Because of its shorter pulse duration and high peak power, Discovery Pico can effectively pulverize even the deepest skin pigments. As the newest generation of this laser system, the Discovery can be adjusted to one of four pulsing emission modes: Picoseconds, Nanoseconds, Opti Pulse, and Microsecond. What does Discovery Pico do?

This is very important. You must not have any excessive sun exposure or visit a tanning bed for two weeks prior to treatment. Use a sunscreen of at least UVB 30 or higher for a week prior to your procedure, and be prepared to stay away from harsh sun exposure while the skin is regenerating post-treatment. You should also not be on any type of antibiotic.
We will use a topical numbing cream on the skin for 30 minutes prior to treatment. Your procedure will be performed by one of our skin specialists in a comfortable environment. Palo Alto / San Jose Discovery Pico uses concentrated light and pressure to rejuvenate your skin and eradicate ink/lesion particles. It’s rapid ultra-short bursts are targeted toward each individual section of the treatment area. This process can take up to 30 minutes, but the average time may vary based on your specific treatment needs. This laser system is proven to provide long-lasting results. After your session, you are free to return to regular activities.
Pain and discomfort during the procedure are generally mild. Following your Discovery Pico laser treatment, some redness, swelling, and bruising may occur but should subside in a short amount of time. In the week following treatment, your skin will be slightly drier. We recommend using gentle cleansers, moisturizer, and sunscreen during this time. After one week, it is safe to resume your normal skincare routine.
After any side effects subside, you will see a dramatic improvement in the appearance of your skin. Results, while impressive and long-lasting, will vary based on your type and area of concern. When it comes to tattoo removal, this powerful and precision system has been proven roughly 100x faster than conventional Q-Switched tattoo lasers.
