When neurotoxins are injected into the muscles that cause wrinkles, acetylcholine cannot bind to the nerve membrane. Without this mechanism, facial muscles have a greatly reduced ability to contract. Once the muscles have impaired movement, the existing wrinkles will begin to soften. Treatment with a neurotoxin such as Botox® or Dysport® is generally safe and effective.
Your first step is to schedule a consultation with our medical staff to determine if you are a candidate for treatment and to develop a customized treatment plan. The procedure can be performed at the same time as the consultation. Using a fine needle, small amounts of Botox® or Dysport® will be injected in the muscles. This process of injecting Botox® or Dysport® takes less than ten minutes to perform depending on the number and size of the treated areas.
This is a very simple procedure and there is virtually no downtime. Immediately after treatment, needle marks may be present on the skin. The skin may also be raised and a bit red. Both typically resolve in 15 minutes. Bruising is unlikely, but possible after Botox® or Dysport®. In the rare case that a patient bruises from treatment, our medical team offers complimentary laser services to facilitate the breakdown of the bruise. To minimize the risk of bruising, we recommend that all patients avoid alcohol or blood-thinning medications such as Vitamin E or fish oil seven days prior to treatment.
Botox® and Dysport® treat all kinds of conditions where contracted muscles create unsightly lines, wrinkles or other effects on contours of the face. These neurotoxins can help with conditions like fine lines, smoker’s lines, wrinkles, crow’s feet, corner of mouth elevation, neck bands and other signs of aging. After receiving a treatment of Botox® or Dysport® at Illuminate your face will appear much smoother and more relaxed.
You will not see the dramatic results from Botox® right away.* The muscles will weaken over the next three to fourteen days. After this period, you should notice a dramatic difference in the wrinkles on your face, especially if you had very pronounced wrinkles before the procedure.* These results typically last three to four months.*
It is difficult to say how much your specific Botox® or Dysport® treatment will cost without a consultation. Each unit of Botox® is usually between $15-$20. The average Botox® treatment ranges from $300-$900. Our patients have been very happy using services like CareCredit for financing.
