You probably know that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and our office is gearing up to host our second annual Spin for a Survivor, a charity event benefiting the local non-profit Bay Area Cancer Connections.
Ironically, while in the midst of preparing for our first Breast Cancer Benefit, I received a life-altering diagnosis. I was performing a breast self-examination when I noticed a lump and decided to get it checked out. I was shocked to receive the news that it was Breast Cancer. Oh, the irony.
As a young woman with no family history of breast cancer at the time, this diagnosis is extremely rare. It was a painful reminder that although we may be young and feel perfectly healthy, we’re not invincible. I feel so fortunate to have been surrounded by family, friends, and colleagues who gave me an outpouring of support.
However, I can’t imagine what this experience may be like for women who don’t have the same support system or access to information for this devastating disease. That’s why our Breast Cancer Benefit with SoulCycle is even more meaningful to me than ever. All of the proceeds will go to Bay Area Cancer Connections, a resource that was mentioned time and time again during conversations I’ve had with my own doctors over the years.
David and I would appreciate if you attended our Spin for a Survivor event on Sunday, October 13th at 3 pm with Casey Hirsch. We are requesting that each rider make a minimum donation of $150 directly to Bay Area Cancer Connections (David and I will be providing donation envelopes at the event).
