Why Laser Treatments Should Be Done During the Winter Months

Why Laser Treatments Should Be Done During the Winter Months

Winter is just around the corner – and that means you’re focusing on preparing for holiday dinners, planning a few winter getaways, and finding that perfect cozy sweater for nights by the fireplace. In fact, the last thing on your mind might be laser hair removal treatments or laser resurfacing. Those should be saved for when summer’s just around the corner… Right?

As it turns out, there’s actually a strong argument for winter laser treatments being perfect during the cooler months. Whether you want to undergo laser hair removal or Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatments, here are a few reasons why laser treatments should be done during the winter months:

  • Tanned skin is highly resistant to laser treatments, especially IPL procedures. These laser treatments work by targeting darker pigment (like brown spots and hyperpigmentation) and breaking the pigment down. When your entire skin is tanned, it’s difficult for the laser treatment to target the specific darker pigment.
  • It’s vital to keep your skin safe from sun exposure after treatments. That tends to be difficult during the summer months, when you’re spending afternoons at the beach or soaking up the sun at baseball games. It’s a little easier during winter months, when more of your skin is covered up. However, that doesn’t mean you should skimp on sunscreen, even in the midst of January!
  • Want to get ready for the summer months? Then you should start your prep during winter. Many laser treatments take about three to four months to see ideal results. If you start your laser treatments now, you’ll be ready to show off by the time spring rolls around!*
